While the 143rd Run for the Roses will take place with the Kentucky Derby on Saturday, the track at Churchill Downs will first be home to 13 races on Friday, headlined by the Grade I stakes Kentucky Oaks.
Friday’s action gets underway at 10:30 a.m. ET with the first race and will wrap up in the evening with the final race at 7:23 p.m. NBC Sports Network will carry coverage throughout the day, beginning at 12 p.m. and running through 3 p.m., before picking back up again from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.

The post time for the Kentucky Oaks itself is 6:12 p.m. A live stream of the day’s action will be available via NBC Sports Live Extra.

The biggest races include the Grade I La Troienne, the Grade 2 Alysheba, the Grade 2 Eight Belles, and, of course, the Kentucky Oaks. The entire purse for the Kentucky Oaks, the 11th race on the day, is $1 million, with the winner taking home the largest chunk, a $600,000 prize.

Paradise Woods is the horse that has been favored by Vegas, with Miss Sky Warrior just behind her and all of Farrell, Abel Tasman, and Salty not far behind. But most experts are sticking with the betting lines, and of those picking at the official Derby website, five of the six making picks think Paradise Woods will win.
The other is picking Farrell.

Friday’s Kentucky Oaks is a 1-1/8 mile run at Churchill Downs featuring 3-year-old thoroughbred fillies. Paradise Woods drew the fourth post for the race. Farrell, who swept three races at the Fair Grounds, drew the seventh post while Miss Sky Warrior, a winner in five of her six starts, is in 10th position.
Paradise Woods will be ridden by Flavien Prat, who was the rider for the Santa Anita Oaks. She is trained by Richard Mandella. At 6-1 odds, Salty is a strong contender, but she drew the outside post and that could shake things up a bit.

Below is all you need to know to watch the racing action on Friday. The Kentucky Derby itself is set for 6:46 p.m. on Saturday.
