No. 24 SMU and Cincinnati meet with American Athletic Conference bragging rights on the line this Sunday at noon on CBS.
# SMU (25-4, 13-4) routed UConn 80-54 on Thursday for Senior Night. SMU senior Nic Moore had 16 points. Fellow SMU senior Markus Kennedy dished out a career-high nine assists.
Sunday's contest vs. Cincinnati will be the final game of the season for SMU which is ineligible from the conference tournament and NCAA Tournament due to an NCAA probe that revealed academic fraud.
SMU began the season with 18 straight victories, the first nine of which coming with head coach Larry Brown suspended for lack of program control. SMU's 14th win came against Cincinnati on Jan. 7, a 59-57 thriller in which the shorthanded Mustangs rallied as Jordan Tolbert tipped in a missed shot by Nic Moore for the go-ahead basket with 28 seconds to go.
Cincinnati (21-9, 11-6), fell 69-56 vs. Houston. Troy Caupain scored 19 points with five assists for Cincinnati.
Cincinnati has gone .500 in its past four games but are still one of Jerry Palm's "Last four in" in his Bracketology.
